Don Quixote

This was a short project making collages in a set of drawers, using a rainbow colour theme and pages from a copy of Don Quixote I found on the street.

Seven Ages of Man

This work explores the dichotomy of masculine strength and fragility. It uses materials such as fibreglass which has a high strength to weight ratio, and tissue paper which is extremely fragile.

JD Holden is working with four series of artworks, "Abstract Heads", "View from the Mies Pavilion", "Verticals" and "Still Life (Rubbish)".
The first series of Abstract Heads have all been women who have a connection to Barcelona. This series came out of some experimentation with the disciplines of portraiture and abstract art. A film of the sketchbook, showing the development of this series can be seen on YouTube.

The sculptures in the "View from the Mies Pavilion" series draw on the work of collage artists, and have a strong architectural bent. They are created from the point of view of a model relaxing in the Mies Pavilion, one of the most significant architectural achievements of the 20th Century, with another important piece of Barcelona architecture in the distance.

The "Verticals" series are more traditional paint on canvas artworks, with the acrylic being applied with carton strips in vertical movements. The first series is based on men working around Barcelona.

"Still Life (Rubbish)" moves the genre into three dimensional pieces, some sculptural in quality, and asks questions about our relationship to consumerism and issues of packaging, marketing and beauty.

Colour - Blue

As part of my colour studies I have started collecting images and things that are linked by a theme.... the first one is the colour Blue (the blue that is moving towards red, rather than the one that is moving towards yellow....)

So here are some photos of a drawer of blue things....(note that I haven't finished it... and that I keep moving things!!)

The Studio

I have a new art studio! I know it looks like an Upholsterer's, but it's not!! I have the shed at the bottom of the garden.... nice huh!
